Workshop Title: ACLS Course - NZRC Level 5.
Date: Friday 23 March
Time: 1300-1700
Venue: Simulation Centre for Patient Safety at Tamaki Innovation Campus, University of Auckland
Cost: $325 (payable when you register for the Symposium)
The International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) updated their guidelines for CPR late 2010. It is therefore advisable to update your certification in one of these sessions.
This 4 hour course will cover:
• basic life support adult and paediatric,
• use of automated and manual defibrillators,
• recognition of shockable and non-shockable rhythms,
• airway management, and the role of pharmacology in resuscitation.
Use of an algorithmic approach to management of cardiac arrest will be stressed. The course is run to New Zealand Resuscitation Council Level 5 guidelines to meet the MOPS requirements of the RNZCGP. Practical skills will be assessed during the course and there will be two written tests. One will be recognition of shockable rhythms and one will be a multi-choice test based on the course's content.
The recommended text for this course is the New Zealand Resuscitation Council's Basic Resuscitation for Health Professionals (2010) or Advanced Resuscitation for Health Professionals- Level 7 (2010). These are available from www.nzrc.org.nz and are a great resource for a practice to have.
To gain Level 7 Recertification you are required to do a further 4 hour practical session and pass the University of Auckland ACLS Recertification test. There will be two special courses offered at the Advanced Clinical Skills Centre to participants on this course. Please refer to our website http://www.fmhs.auckland.ac.nz/som/anaes/scps/ after the Symposium.
